Pickens County Jail Mugshots
The Pickens County Detention Center roster publicly displays booking photos for people shown in the official roster. The current roster list shows mugshot thumbnails next to inmate summaries, and an individual roster profile shows a larger front-facing booking image. No login or payment was required to view the mugshot on the inspected official pages. The roster is operated through the Pickens County Alabama Sheriff's Office site under Sheriff Jordan Powell, so it is the first source to check before using any other record path.
The roster is not a complete archive of every old booking photo. The current view covers people currently held at the Pickens County Detention Center. The separate 48-hour release view covers people released within the last 48 hours. The research did not locate an official statement saying that every booking photo remains visible for the full release window, that images are kept online after that period, or that historical mugshots are available for public browsing.
What is public and what is not: Adult roster entries can show booking photos, booking numbers, booking dates, charges, bonds, age, gender, race, and arresting agency. Juvenile records, expunged or sealed matters, medical facts, personal identifiers, and records restricted by court order or law are not ordinary public roster fields.
Find Pickens County Mugshots
Use the official roster channels first. The Pickens County Detention Center roster landing page lets a user choose current inmates or 48-hour releases. The direct current roster can also be opened from the sheriff site. The current roster page includes name and date sorting, A-Z filters, a first-or-last-name search box, pagination, booking summaries, visible charges, bond values, mugshot thumbnails, and a profile link.
- Open the official roster landing page and choose "Current Inmates" for someone believed to be in custody now.
- Use "Search By Name" with either the first name or last name. The roster does not expose booking-number, date-of-birth, charge, facility, date-range, agency, or housing filters.
- Review the summary result for the mugshot thumbnail, name, booking number, booking date, charges, bond, and "View Profile" link.
- Open the profile to see the larger booking photo and the added fields, including age, gender, race, arresting agency, and the bond warning.
- If the person was just released, check the 48-hour release roster before assuming there is no public booking entry.
- If the person is not listed, call the jail or check ADOC, BOP, or ICE if the custody stage may have changed.
The official current roster image in the project manifest shows how the public page combines mugshot thumbnails with booking numbers, charge text, and bond summaries.
Pickens County Booking Photo Fields
A booking photo is displayed with a narrow set of public jail fields. The inspected Pickens County profile did not show date of birth, street address, height, weight, eye color, hair color, housing unit, warrant number, court date, judge, magistrate, projected release date, charge code, case number, booking officer, medical status, or property details. That absence is useful. It tells a reader what can be checked online and what must be verified with the jail, clerk, attorney, or court.
| Roster field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Mugshot | Public booking photo thumbnail on the roster and larger profile image while the record is listed. |
| Name | Full name as entered in the jail system, with spelling and capitalization as shown by the roster. |
| Booking # | Numeric booking identifier used by the public profile URL. |
| Booking Date | Date and time of booking in the roster's month-day-year and time format. |
| Age, Gender, Race | Basic demographic fields displayed on the profile, often in all caps. |
| Arresting Agency | Agency credited with the arrest or hold, with spelling and case as entered. |
| Charges | Plain-language booking or arrest charges that may change after court appearances. |
| Bond | Amount or "No Bond"; the profile says to call jail staff for current bail and charge details. |
| Profile warning | Notice that charges and bail may not be current after court appearances. |
The sample public profile image from the official roster shows the ceiling of online booking-photo detail: photo, booking number, demographics, arresting agency, booking date, charge, bond, and warning language.
Are Pickens County Mugshots Public?
Adult booking information in Pickens County is publicly posted by the sheriff's roster, and the inspected roster includes mugshots. Alabama's open-records framework is broad, but the research did not locate one official Alabama statute titled as a booking-photo or mugshot law. The most accurate way to state the rule is narrower: adult jail booking records are publicly available through the official Pickens roster unless a legal limit applies, and Alabama public-record law supplies the general open-records frame.
State-law caveats: Alabama Code Section 36-12-40 gives citizens a general right to inspect and copy public writings unless an exception applies. Alabama Code Section 12-15-134 treats juvenile law-enforcement records differently, and Alabama Code Section 15-27 expungement information from ALEA confirms that courts grant expungements in eligible cases.
Those limits matter for mugshots. A public adult roster image is different from a juvenile record, a sealed or expunged record, a court-restricted file, an investigative record, or a record no longer shown in the public roster window. The sheriff site also publishes separate most-wanted and sex-offender sections with separate disclaimers. Those pages should not be mixed with ordinary jail booking photos.
Request Pickens County Booking Photos
If a booking photo is not visible online, the local fallback is the Pickens County Sheriff's Office and detention center. The research did not locate a dedicated mugshot request form, booking-photo fee schedule, or fixed processing time on the sheriff site. The sheriff contact page and phone number are the practical starting points, but the official contact page warns that email is not monitored 24 hours a day and that plain-text email should not be used for confidential, sensitive, or personal information.
- Search the current roster first, then the 48-hour release roster if release may have happened recently.
- Write down the person's full roster name, booking number if shown, booking date, arresting agency, and charge wording.
- Call Pickens County Detention Center staff at 205-367-2000 before sending a request, especially if bond, charges, or case numbers matter.
- Use the sheriff contact page only for non-urgent contact and avoid sending Social Security numbers, license numbers, medical facts, bank details, or other sensitive data in plain text.
- Ask whether the photo is still available as a public booking record, whether a formal open-records request is needed, and whether copies or certification must come from another office.
- If the case has moved into court, check the court record path because the booking photo is not the same as the filed charge or disposition.
For the court side of the same arrest, the better record source is Pickens County court records after arrest. A case file can explain whether a booking charge was filed, amended, dismissed, reduced, or resolved by conviction.
Mugshot Roster Time Limits
The official roster gives two visible windows: current inmates and 48-hour releases. That means a person can be visible while held, then possibly visible for a short time after release. The research did not verify that every released mugshot remains online for the entire 48-hour period, so the safer wording is that the release roster covers people released within the last 48 hours and may include booking entries. After that, a public profile may no longer be reachable from the normal roster flow.
Roster disappearance is not the same as expungement. A photo may leave the public roster because the public listing window closed. Expungement or sealing is a court process under Alabama law and depends on eligibility, disposition, and a court order. The Pickens sheriff research did not locate a local mugshot-removal policy. Requests to change a criminal court or arrest history should not be treated as a simple website correction.
Note: The official roster is a current operational source, not a permanent public archive of every Pickens County booking photo.
State and Federal Mugshots
Pickens County has more than one custody system. The local jail roster covers county detainees, recent releases, local arrests, some outside-agency holds, and the booking-photo records published by the sheriff's system. Once a person is sentenced to Alabama Department of Corrections custody, the county jail roster is no longer the main lookup. ADOC's public search is for current state prisoners and does not serve as a Pickens County jail mugshot gallery.
Federal custody is different again. Federal Correctional Institution Aliceville is physically in Pickens County, but it is a Bureau of Prisons facility for sentenced female federal offenders, not a Pickens County jail. The BOP Inmate Locator searches federal inmates from 1982 to present and shows fields such as name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. It does not publish public mugshots in the locator. ICE's detainee locator is also a custody locator, not a mugshot gallery, even when ICE custody is connected to the Pickens County Detention Center through federal contract or inspection records.
| Custody system | Where to search | Booking photo expectation |
|---|---|---|
| Pickens County jail | Official current and 48-hour roster | Roster entries can show public adult booking photos. |
| ADOC state prison | ADOC inmate search | State-prison lookup is not a county booking-photo roster. |
| BOP federal prison | BOP Inmate Locator and FCI Aliceville page | The public BOP locator does not display mugshots. |
| ICE civil immigration custody | ICE Online Detainee Locator or ICE detention information | ICE locator is for detainee location, not booking photos. |
Use Mugshots Carefully
A mugshot shows that a booking photo was taken and displayed with a jail record. It does not prove guilt, does not show a final court outcome, and may be paired with charges that later change. The Pickens roster profile warning is direct: charges and bail amounts may change after court appearances and may not be current. The same warning tells people to call 205-367-2000 for correct bail amounts, charges, and case numbers.
Unofficial reposting sites are not needed to use official Pickens County records. The official roster, detention center phone line, Alacourt, the clerk, ADOC, BOP, ICE, and the Alabama Victim Notification System are the documented channels. For current custody, jail details, and roster fields, start with Pickens County inmate records and verify directly before relying on a photo or charge label.
